NIE number

What is it and why do I need one?
An NIE number is a national identity number for a foreigner in a foreign country. It also acts as a fiscal number which is why you may be asked for your number when purchasing a house or car.

How do I get one?
By completing an application form and supplying a copy of your full passport along with a property purchase contract, rental contract or inheritance documents. There are always exceptions and should your requirement not fall into one of these categories please ask for further information. We accompany you to the appropriate office to make the application. This must be done in person. 

How long does it take?
The NIE number can usually be collected 10 days later although it depends on which office is applied to as sometimes they can be issued the same day.
