TIE cards post Brexit

As many of you already know we are currently in the transition period of brexit having now left the European Union with the final date of transition currently at 31st December 2020.

Post Brexit the current residencia card will be replaced by a TIE card which is a biometric identity card. At the moment it is a fairly simple process to exchange the current residencia for a TIE card and although current information says it is not strictly required to do so at the moment it is easy and so recommended. We do not know what qualifications will be needed in 2021. Anyone with a residencia card less than 5 years will be awarded a further 5 years and residents cards which are permanent will be issued with a 10 year card. These cards will respect the current conditions of your residencia in Spain.
