Many people who own a property will have already made a Spanish will to cover distribution of assets in the event of their deaths and at the moment the rights of being a British citizen are respected. In August 2015 the law in Spain is changing and unless your Spanish will specifically contains a clause to say you wish to be dealt with under the law of your own country then your assets will be distributed in accordance with the Spanish law of inheritance. Please note that this change will only affect the rights of residents in Spain and does not affect those who own a holiday home here.
